Believe it or not, things are just as crazy in January as they are in June. Several items keep

This is the time to get the popcorn we grew this summer ready for your enjoyment. Since we are just getting started, things are very manual. As I write this, Jim is busy shucking the popcorn in preparation for shelling the corn. What is supposed to be my sewing room has turned in to a popcorn processing center. We do have an old fashioned sheller so that should speed things up.
After the kernels are removed from the cob, they have to be cleaned to get rid of the chaff. After researching several designs, Jim will be making our own cleaner with the help of a neighbor. More about that later. :)
We're also experimenting with the different flours that we've made. So far I've made several loaves of bread using flour made out of popped popcorn. Why would you do that you ask? For us, its part of our quest to be self sufficient. If we can use less flour from the store, we are more independent. The popcorn we've used is extra that was left over from an evening treat. Because we have pigs, the extra would not have gone to waste, but this is an additional way to use it.
